Week 7: Research (Crawl)
Crawl by Powerhoof
Description
"The Dungeon Crawler Where Your Friends Control The Monsters" - Powerhoof
Crawl is a fast-paced, brawler video game released in December, 2017. The game is both a single-player as well as a multiplayer game where one player plays as a hero, while other players control monsters and traps against the hero in a randomly generated dungeon setting with pixel-style aesthetic. The player who succeed in killing the hero character will swap their role with the other player to become the hero in the next turn. Each players can collect stats as they progress through the game which allow them to use more powerful moves. The game will reach its end when the hero reaches the boss level and defeats the boss, whose limbs are controlled by the other players.
Asymmetry
This game employs an unilateral structure in which one player is playing against a group of other players who are working together to achieve one goal. Crawl has asymmetry in both the players' abilities as well as the objectives. As for the players' abilities, the player who plays the hero will have abilities relating to the hero stereotype, and they can unlock new attacks and spell as their level increases. On the other hand, the players controlling the monsters will have various abilities and physical looks relating to the monster stereotypes, and they can unlock stronger types of enemies to possess as their levels increase. As for the objectives, there are two of them: one is for the hero player to defeat all the enemies, and one is for the monsters who have to kill the hero. In addition, in order for the game to be balanced, the hero, who is the minority, can have a wider attack range than the monsters to balance out the number of the attacks from the monsters.
