Week 12: Excercises

Focus your game. How much can  you remove and still maintain the core experience?

First, I'm going to list the core elements of the game, which are to find spirits and to either exorcise them or help them move on. One of the things that can be remove right away is the amount of types of ghosts we have. While we initially decided to have different types of ghosts that vary in abilities, looks, and rarity, we can decrease to two types of ghosts (good ones and bad ones) to serve the main objective of the game. However, we can also go further and remove the part about the morality level of the player which is affected by exorcising good spirits. Since the moral part doesn't actually affect the gameplay itself, it can be taken out. Still, the part help clarifies the difference between attacking good ghosts and bad ones. This means that, without the moral bar, we can also decrease the types of ghosts down to one, in which the only action the players can do is to attack, which lead to exorcism if successful. Additionally, we can decrease the different attatcks the players have down to one type. This would make the interface of the screen becomes simpler as well, since there are less actions the players would have to consider overall. The removal of the different types of attacks can also be done to the ghosts, decreasing their attacks to one type, or even none. With this, instead of fighting back, maybe the spirits can instead try to move and avoid the players' attacks, causing the player to chase after them and try to aim their attacks rather than shooting randomly.
